HPD: Man hit after more than a dozen shots fired in Valero parking lot

HOUSTON – Police said a man was hit after more than a dozen shots were fired in the parking lot of a southwest Houston gas station.

It happened at around 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Valero in the 12300 block of Fondren near W. Airport.

Officials said the victim was standing in the parking lot when a black male suspect ran up behind him and fired at least 13 shots at him.

Houston police said the victim was hit two or three times in the buttocks.

"All of a sudden I heard pow, pow, pow. And I was like oh my God," said Kathryn Ellis, who says she heard a string of gunshots that sounded like they were just feet away from her living room in the airport landing.

"I didn't know if it was going to come through the window. I was like oh my God. Somebody must have gotten shot or something," Ellis said.

We're told an elderly couple tried to help the gunshot victim by putting a coat over him as they waited for police to arrive.

The victim was transported by ambulance to an area hospital. We're told he is expected to survive.

Investigators said the gunman then hopped over a fence to the Airport Landing apartments and got away.

The suspect was wearing a yellow shirt, blue jeans and a gray hat.

At this point, police do not have a motive for the shooting.

Authorities said the surveillance cameras at the gas station were not working at the time of the incident.

The gunman is still on the run.

" It really scared us really bad. Now a days you don't know from morning to noon to evening are you going to be safe," said Ellis.
