HPD: Man drove drunk, hit police car

Anthony Adam Garcia to be charged with driving while intoxicated

HOUSTON – Charges are pending against a 29-year-old man accused of crashing into a Houston police cruiser while the officer conducted a traffic stop.

Police arrested Anthony Adam Garcia on Monday. He was expected to be charged with first offender driving while intoxicated.

The crash happened on the feeder road just off of 45 near Aldine Bender Road about 3 a.m. Monday.

The police car had its lights on during the traffic stop but Garcia didn't slow down or move over in time to avoid crashing into it, said police.

"Probably about three minutes afterwards, there was another vehicle driving at a high rate of speed and crashed into the police cruiser, causing damage and proceeded to flip over," said Luke Tram with the Houston Police Department.

The force of the crash pushed the police cruiser into the truck that was pulled over. It shattered the truck's back window.

No one was hurt, including the police dog.
