HOUSTON - An east Houston homeowner shot a person who tried to break into his home, investigators said.
Houston police said the incident happened in the 10000 block of Valencia shortly after 11 a.m.
Police said the homeowner used a home security surveillance system to watch the two young men knock on his door. When no one answered, they went around to the side of the house and crawled through a window, according to police.
The homeowner was there waiting for them and opened fire, hitting one of the suspects twice before they both ran off, detectives said.
Investigators said a friend drove the wounded intruder to East Houston Regional Hospital, where he was taken into custody. Police said his injuries are non-life-threatening and he has been questioned.
The other person is still on the loose.
The homeowner who shot the intruder has not been charged, police said.
"Somebody goes into your home, things are going to happen," neighbor Rick Saucedo said. "You got a choice -- let them harm you or you harm them."
