HPD: Girl lied about being raped after school

HOUSTON – A Yates High School student said she was sexually assaulted on her way home from her school, but it turns out she lied.

The 15-year-old girl said the rape happened on Oct. 24. She said after the last school bell rang, she left campus to get on a METRO bus.

Investigators said the the girl told them that after she got off the bus, a man drove up next to her and asked her if she wanted to get in. The girl said she refused and the man forced her into the truck and later raped her, officials said.

Community members and elected officials handed out fliers to warn others.

On Thursday, Houston police said the girl recanted the story.

Investigators have not said what charges, if any, the girl may face for making up the attack.
