HOUSTON -

A man is recovering at the hospital after an accident police said did major damage to a southwest Houston neighborhood Thursday.

Officers were called out to the home on Richmond Avenue and Tanglewilde Street just after 1:45 a.m., police said.

Investigators said a man driving a Nissan Altima was headed westbound on Richmond when he lost control.

They said he left the road, hit a pole, drove through a strip mall parking lot, and then across two lanes of traffic on Tanglewilde.

He then slammed into a car in a driveway and hit a home, HPD said.

The force of the crash took out bricks on the corner of the home near the garage and knocked over a wooden fence.

They said he also did major damage to the car.

The man in the Altima suffered a gash on his head, according to investigators.

They said he was transported to the hospital where he will also be tested to determine if he was under the influence.
