HPD: Crack cocaine, beer cans found near shooting victim in NE Houston

HOUSTON – Houston police began investigating after officers found a man with gunshot wounds lying behind a northeast Houston home Tuesday morning.

Residents in the 8800 block of Lomax Street and Knight Street told police they heard the sound of gunshots around 1 a.m.

Witnesses said, shortly after, they spotted two men running down the street, away from the area.

Officers later found a man with gunshot wounds lying under a carport behind a home. Police said the victim was shot at least four times.

Police said crack cocaine and numerous beer cans were found near the victim's body.

"Checking the area around the back, they did find a car with some crack cocaine in the car. There were also numerous beer cans laying around out back," said Larry Crowson, Houston Police Department.

Officers said it's possible the shooting was drug-related.

The victim was taken to the hospital in critical, but stable condition. He is expected to survive.
