HOUSTON – A northwest Harris County store clerk was shot during a shootout with a robbery suspect.
The shooting happened shortly after 10 p.m. Sunday at Mo's Food Store in the 13500 block of Kuykendahl at Ella Boulevard.
Deputies said the robber walked into the store and demanded money from the clerk. After a struggle, the clerk was shot once. The clerk told investigators he was able to get his own gun and shoot twice at the robber. The clerk said he believes he hit the robber before the suspect fled the scene.
Harris County Precinct 4 deputy constables searched for the gunman with a K-9 unit in nearby woods, but the suspect escaped. Officials said he apparently had a getaway car waiting for him.
Investigators said hospitals have been put on notice to look for anyone with a gunshot wound.
The clerk was hospitalized in stable condition.
