HPD: Children inside home during parent's attempted murder-suicide

Husband dead, wife in critical condition

HOUSTON – A woman is fighting for her life in the hospital after what police are calling an attempted murder-suicide.

Houston police said it happened around 10:30 p.m. Thursday at a home on Leader Street in southwest Houston.

According to police, 45-year-old Miguel Calderon shot his 51-year-old wife, Catalina Calderon, three times before turning the gun on himself. He died at the scene.

Police said the wife was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital in critical condition.

Houston police said the couple's two children, ages 10 and 15, were inside the house during the shooting. It is unclear if they witnessed the shooting.
