HPD: 1 person shot at market in NE Harris County

HARRIS COUNTY – Police are investigating a takeover-style robbery and shooting at a market in northeast Harris County.

Houston police say three to four men ran into the Jensen Super Store located in the 2800 block of Bennington, pulled out a gun and demanded money.  Police say the robbers got the employees under control and took money out of the store's safe.  The robbers ran out the front door.

"We heard the gunshot. One guy jumped in the back of the pickup.  Another guy jumped in the cab of the pickup.  And I guess the guy inside the pickup is the one that shot the...I think the owner came out and threw his bar or something and broke the window and it just happened really quick," said witness James Daggs.

Police say two employees ran out of the store's back door.  Officers said one carried a pipe and used it to break the window out of the getaway pickup.  That's when investigators say a robber shot an employee in the shoulder.

Police dogs tracked the pickup just down the street.  Neighbors were not sure what to think.

"We were all ducking and dodging and just trying to see what was going on.  I guess it's just terrible that people are going to these extremes," said the neighbor.

After finding the getaway truck, police dogs and officers kept searching the area near Jensen and Barrington for the robbers.

We're told the employee who was shot was rushed to Ben Taub Hospital.
