How much does it cost to raise sextuplets?

Perkins family welcomes 3 boys, 3 girls

HOUSTON – A mother is resting after giving birth to not one but six bundles of joy. Many people have wondered -- how much will it cost to raise sextuplets?

According to the family's website, the "Perkins Pack" and mom are stable.

Lauren Perkins successfully delivered three boy and three girls on Monday at 30 weeks one day gestation.

The babies, born at Texas Children's Pavilion for Women, weighed between 1 pound 10 ounces, and 2 pounds 15 ounces.

According to the United States Department of Agriculture, the cost of raising six kids is more than $87,000 a year.

The family can expect to use more than 16,000 diapers. That could cost about $4,800.

Formula for one baby runs about $1,200 a year. For six kids, that could add up to $7,200.

If all six children go to a four-year in-state public college, mom and dad could likely shell out $1,703,208.

The names of the babies have not been announced.

The odds of having sextuplets are about one in 4 million.
