Houstonians pray for next pope

'Mass for the Election of a Pope' held at Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Houston

HOUSTON – Catholics in Houston are praying for their next pope and the leaders who will choose him.

5,600 miles from Rome, Catholics in Houston held "The Mass for the Election of a Pope" at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart on Monday, one day before the selection process known as the conclave begins.

"We're going to pray here that God may guide the cardinals to select someone of God's own heart who will be able to guide, who will be a symbol of unity," said Father Alphomsus Enelichi.

In total, 117 cardinals gathered at the Vatican will choose the leader of the Catholic Church. The Houston church prayed for them and specifically for Cardinal Daniel DiNardo. He is the archbishop of Galveston-Houston who traveled to Rome for the conclave.
