Houstonians mourn death of Harris County District Attorney

Within a few days or weeks, Gov. Perry will name an interim DA and call for a special election next November

HOUSTON – The death of District Attorney Mike Anderson leaves a hole in the hearts of his friends and family, and a void at the Harris County Criminal Justice Center.

"We are devastated by the loss of the DA. He's done an outstanding job in his eight months there. Out prayers go out to his family, wife, son and daughter," said Doug Griffith of the Houston Police Officer's Union.

The Houston Police Officer's Union worked tirelessly to help Anderson get elected. As they mourn, they also hope the right person is appointed to fill the position.

Within a few days or weeks, Gov. Perry will name an interim DA and call for a special election next November.

For now, many say the office is in capable hands with former criminal judge Belinda Hill, who Anderson tapped as his first assistant and who has overseen the office during his medical absence.

"We just hope the best for the DA's office. Mike was a good friend to law enforcement in general a great friend to our organization and will be missed," said Griffith.
