Houstonian's family was inside Sikh temple during shooting

HOUSTON – A Houston woman was frantically trying to reach her family in Oak Creek, Wis., Sunday after news broke of a shooting at a Sikh temple.

Her family was there. They survived, and her cousin told her what happened.

"They were standing out there for at least, I think, three hours, so it was not a short period of time. Communication was just not there," said Dimple Kaur.

Kaur learned her cousin's mother-in-law was cooking in the kitchen and Kaur's aunt was also inside the temple. 

"My aunt she was actually in the pantry closet with a dozen other people. Women and children and they were in the closet for about two or three hours before police came and got them out," said Kaur. 

Kaur grew up in Milwaukee and has been to that temple many times with her mother. 
"This is located very close to airport. (My mother) will say, 'Why don't we stop off before the plane so you can spend a few moments?' I have done that. It's very sad people died. And for what reason? It just doesn't make sense," said Kaur.

Six worshipers were killed. The gunman, Wade Michael Page, was killed by police.
