HOUSTON – All who braved the cold across the Houston area Monday night were prepared for sub-freezing temperatures.
"Man we're wrapping pipes and taking care of plants, leaving the vehicles running so they can stay warm,"said Craig Patterson of Conroe. "We're taking care of the pets man, keeping them inside, and just trying to do the best we can out here to stay warm."
People and businesses covered plants before Monday evening's freeze warning. It was a rough one all day as people who had to be out in the cold did their best to stay warm. Gonzalo Barron leads a construction crew.
"If you're not used to it," said Barron, "it's hard. It's hard."
Most of us will be tempted to raise the thermostat to battle the freezing temps but the state is asking residents to conserve energy.
Officials with the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, better known as ERCOT, expect energy to spike again overnight. If we consume too much energy -- rolling blackouts could be on the table. But some folks say their goal overnight is simply to stay warm.
"The dog's inside," said David Graumlich of Conroe. "The heat's turned up in the house a little bit to try and keep the pipes from freezing. Along with wrapping."
