When Riley was found, she was pulled to shore and an officer performed CPR on her until she was taken to John Sealy Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 9:30 p.m.

Officials said further details are unknown because it was already dark when Riley disappeared.

Lifeguards had reportedly announced they were leaving for the night, so they were not at their towers when Riley disappeared in the water.
