One week after nearly 150 cats were removed from a northwest Harris County home, the Houston SPCA was granted custody.
Officials with the Harris County Precinct 1 Constable’s Office responded to the home on Linecamp Drive near Rio Grande Drive on March 28 where they found 144 cats under the car of two elderly sisters.
Authorities say inside the home they found urine and feces stacked several feet high.
Officials with Harris County Public Health and Environmental Services said a neighborhood nuisance notice was issued at the residence in January for trash and debris. A neighbor said he would see a few cats at a time outside the home, but had no idea just how many cats were inside.
During a court hearing Thursday, custody of the cats was given to the SPCA.
SPCA officials are seeking monetary reimbursement of $30,457 to treat and care for the cats.
