Houston provides freebies for furloughed workers

Boston Market is offering all gov't employees and troops a free chicken with purchase of family meal

HOUSTON – As the nation enters the ninth day of the government shutdown, businesses are trying to ease the financial burden to furloughed government workers who are not getting paid right now.

Starbucks is offering a free tall brewed coffee to any customer who buys another customer a beverage at any location. Starbucks' CEO said the offer is a way to have consumers "support and connect with one another even as we wait for our elected officials to do the same for our country." The offer is good through Friday.

Boston Market is offering all government employees and troops a free chicken with the purchase of a family meal through Sunday. You will need your federal ID to get the deal.

Furloughed NASA employees can see the current number one movie in the country, Gravity, for free at Alamo Draft House Houston Cinemas. Just bring your NASA ID to the box office between now and Oct. 18.
