HOUSTON -

A young couple is dead and their baby is in Children's Protective Services custody after a neighbor stumbled on a gruesome scene in southwest Houston.

Homicide detectives said a neighbor was walking her dog around 7 p.m., at the Pavilion Place Apartments on Renwick Drive and Westpark, when she heard a baby crying.

She walked over to the apartment where she heard the cries and noticed the door was open, according to Sgt. J.D. Rhodes with the Houston Police Department.

Rhodes said she peered inside and found a 5-month-old baby next to her parents' bodies.

"A woman walking her dog around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday evening heard the baby crying," said Rhodes. "When she went up to the unit, she noticed that the door was open. She looked in and found the husband and wife on the floor and the baby was sitting in between them crying."

Both the man and wife had been shot to death, according to Rhodes.

"I just feel bad for the little 5-month-old baby, that was just sad," said neighbor Kalu Nwoke.

Police said there was no sign of forced entry and the apartment was not ransacked, but the front door was left open.

A Source tells Local 2 the killings appear to be drug related and that marijuana was found inside the apartment.

Houston police identified the victims as Melissa Guerra and Jose Salinas. Both victims were 23 years old.

An emergency hearing has been scheduled to determine the custody of the little girl.

There is no description of the shooter at this time  but a source tells Local 2 a witness spotted the suspect and that police are now working on a composite sketch.

On Thursday evening, Houston police released composite sketches of the two suspects wanted in the case.

Police ask for anyone with information to contact Houston Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
