HOUSTON – Houston police Chief Art Acevedo and City Councilman Robert Gallegos announced during a news conference Monday the details of the department’s upcoming “March on Crime” effort.
The news conference began at 10 a.m. in Downtown Houston.
Acevedo highlighted his department efforts to keep Houston safe.
“And the other thing that’s really important to me is vehicular deaths. We are having way too many people dying in our community from behaviors,” Acevedo said. “That quite frankly that aren’t accidents. This is people making poor choices – driving too fast, following too closely, in and out of traffic by driving aggressively and drunk driving and impaired driving.”
Acevedo said that one of their efforts is to put dedicated police officers in specific areas that need have targeted issues.
"We are going to put more resources on the street to deal with these issues. Starting with putting the cops that we have who are very dedicated and using data to put them out where they are needed …. And our gang teams are going to be focused at night," Acevedo said.
Gallegos presented Acevedo with a proclamation honoring the program.
