Police took two young men into custody Thursday morning, after a group led officers on a high-speed chase through north Houston.
Investigators believed the men were wanted in connection to a recent string of carjackings. The stolen vehicles included a red SUV, a grey pickup truck, and a Jeep Wrangler.
Around midnight, a Houston officer was driving south on N. Shepherd Drive, when he saw two vehicles traveling together that fit the description of the vehicles that were carjacked.
The officer tried to pull over the two vehicles, but the drivers took off, leading the officer on a high-speed chase.
The driver in the red SUV lost control while trying to make a sharp turn at Veterans Memorial Drive. The vehicle crashed into three vehicles that were stopped at a red light at the intersection, and the police cruiser crashed into the SUV.
Investigators said the officer quickly arrested the young man who was driving that vehicle.
Emergency responders had to take the three victims who were hurt in the crash to a nearby hospital.
The driver in the second vehicle drove off, and Houston officers later found the car abandoned in the parking lot of an apartment complex.
Other police units in the area joined the search and decided to investigate a different apartment complex off of W. Montgomery Road. There, officers found the grey pickup truck and the Jeep Wrangler as well as a second suspect. Police then took the second young man into custody.
Houston officers were still looking for three other men that they believed were also part of the group of carjackers.
