Houston named one of dirtiest cities in US

HOUSTON – Our beloved Bayou City has a new ranking, and it's not favorable.

Travel + Leisure magazine just released its survey on dirtiest cities. Houston came as the 10th dirtiest city in America. Air pollution was cited as the reason for the ranking.

Many residents said they thought downtown's cleanliness was the reason for the ranking.

"Sometimes you come downtown and it's pretty bad," one woman said.

"When you walk in downtown, you see a lot trash and (there are) a lot of different smells that you probably shouldn't smell, which makes you wonder where they're coming from," another woman said.

The annual America's Favorite Cities survey ranked cities on everything from cleanliness, attractiveness and pollution.

Dallas was even dirtier, according to the magazine. The city came in as the seventh dirtiest city.

"That makes sense," one man said. "I'm not a fan of Dallas. I hate Dallas. It's always been pretty dirty when I've been there."

New York was ranked No 1. on the dirtiest city list.

Houston is ranked No. 1 on a good list, though. Forbes magazine picked Houston as the coolest city in the U.S.
