Driver killed after slowing down on freeway

HOUSTON – A driver was killed Monday night, after Houston police said he slowed down to try and avoid an accident on the Gulf Freeway.

Investigators said the victim was trying to avoid hitting a white jaguar that was pulling over to the side of the freeway near Scott Street. According to police, the driver believed he had hit something and possibly ruined a tire.

Houston police said the victim was driving a mini cooper and tried to swerve around the first car.

Then, officers said a third driver in a black Ford Expedition crashed into the back end of the mini cooper.

Houston police found the car closer to the intersection of Interstate 45 and Highway 59. According to officials, the driver was discovered, dead, behind the wheel.

Police said the driver, who hit the mini cooper, showed no signs of intoxication.

The gulf freeway was shut down for several hours so officers could investigate. All lanes reopened at about 3 a.m. Monday.
