A Houston fugitive, charged with murdering the mother of his two children, has been captured.
On Friday, the family of Monica Leija thanked the Harris County District Attorney's Office for helping to locate and arrest Juan Castillo.
Castillo is charged with murder for shooting and killing Leija in her bedroom on Houston's southwest side in February 2010.
Shortly after killing her, investigators say he fled to his native country of El Salvador.
According to the DA's office, this is the first time in the county's history that El Salvador authorities have complied with the office's extradition request for a fugitive wanted for murder.
"I always kept this promise: that he can hide from man, but he couldn't hide from God and here it is, they finally caught him and it gives my family a whole bunch of peace in our hearts, " said the victim's sister Adriana Hernandez.
Castillo is in custody in El Salvador where his bond is set for $50,000.
The Harris County DA says it will most likely take months to extradite him back to the U.S.
