Houston fire employee relieved of duty following sexual assault charge involving minor

HOUSTON – A Houston fire employee has been relieved of duty following his arrest for sexually assaulting a female juvenile between the ages of 14 and 17, officials said.

Brandon Ramirez, 27, with the Houston Fire Department initiated an online conversation using a chat application with a juvenile female, the sheriff's office said. He began sending explicit pictures and videos of himself to the child, the sheriff's office said.

After communicating for weeks, Ramirez and the girl met in person and engaged in a sexual encounter, the sheriff's office said.

Ramirez is scheduled to be in court Monday.

Editor's note: An earlier version of this story incorrectly referred to Ramirez as a firefighter.
