Houston designer creates hats

HOUSTON – It's a trend that seems to be sticking around even after the royal wedding. Now fascinators are going local.

Houston designer Marcie Craig recently started her hat line Merci, featuring beautiful colors, feathers and classic netting.

Marcie wears the hats she makes everywhere she goes and that is how she has really gotten her business started.

She says the feedback was instant, "I couldn't go anywhere without someone stopping me and saying, 'I love your hat!'"

Now she sells her hats. We caught up with her during her recent trunk show at Tootsies.

What really sets her hats apart? Marcie says, "I make them all by hand. I have a studio in my home."

Marcie doesn't know where this will take her but she says she wouldn't mind becoming like local designer Elaine Turner.

She admits keeping up with a large department store's massive demand could be grueling so she thinks she'll probably stay small. She admits, " I know I'd be happier in one or several smaller boutiques."

Marcie says she does watch NBC'S Fashion Star and loves it!

She also watches quite a bit of ultimate fighting. Why? Her son Andrew is an ultimate fighting champ.
