Houston Democrats excited about Obama's re-election

HOUSTON – Democrats in Houston cheered when it was announced that Barack Obama will be re-elected as president.

The celebration at the Communications Workers of America Hall in downtown Houston started just after 10 p.m. Tuesday, when NBC projected Obama's victory based on his win in Ohio, the most critical swing state.

U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee called it "happy insanity."

"I'm absolutely ecstatic," Jackson Lee said. "I said earlier this evening that I thought the president would win."

With 99 percent of Harris County precincts reporting, Obama was leading Romney by two votes. Obama had 579,070 votes to Romney's 579,068 votes.

Shortly before midnight, Republican Mitt Romney conceded the race to Obama.
