More than 50 nationwide customers of a local business are complaining they aren’t getting merchandise purchased through the Sunshine Kitty website, Local 2 Investigates has found.
Sunshine Kitty’s website says it’s in Houston. The website sports popular electronic items and claims it sells the “latest and hottest products at prices you can't beat."
Customers say after they paid for merchandise the company hasn’t delivered it.
"They are offering products for a grossly reduced rate, for instance, Dr. Dre headphones normally run about $200. They are $49.99,” said the Better Business Bureau’s Susan Schade.
Some customers originally ordered through Living Social, Schade said, but then Sunshine Kitty contacted customers saying they were no longer working with Living Social and that customers could reorder directly through the company. Many customers chose to do this and have ended up frustrated.
“They aren’t getting the product and can’t contact the company,” Schade said. Living Social has extended refunds to some, Schade said.
The BBB has received about 50 complaints. They get two to four a day, Schade said. “That is unusual,” she said.
Customers from states across the county have similar complaints. One person complained to the BBB that the "product was never delivered," another, "items never arrived" and another, "I have left four voice messages."
"We also tried to contact the company and the phone number has been disconnected,” Schade said.
Using Internet search engines, Local 2 investigates tracked down the name of the website's registered owner, Ashley, from north Houston.
Local 2 investigator Jace Larson left repeated messages and sent text messages to the website’s owner. Calls and texts were not returned.
The BBB hopes future customers see this warning. As of Friday evening, the website was still up.
"We are working with Go Daddy to shut the site down because there isn't a contract for Sunshine Kitty to actually sell those headphones and possibly other products at the prices they are," Schade said.
