Houston will now join other Texas cities, including Austin, San Antonio and El Paso, along with several non-profit groups in challenging that law.

Senate Bill 4 is set to go into effect on Sept. 1.

It allows police to ask people their immigration status during traffic stops, and would punish sheriffs and police chiefs who refuse federal immigration hold requests.
