Houston church choir sings at Vatican

Saint Anne Catholic Church's choir performs during Sunday Mass inside St. Peter's Basilica

VATICAN CITY – A Houston church choir sang during Sunday Mass at St. Peter's Basilica, two days before the start of the conclave to select a new pope.

The Saint Anne Catholic Church's choir traveled from Houston to the Vatican for the honor.

News cameras are not allowed inside St. Peter's, but a Houstonian who attended the mass shared video of the performance with Local 2.

The choir was last in Rome two days after Pope John Paul II died. The group's return comes eight years later, while the world awaits the selection of a new pope. The timing of neither trip could have been planned to fall at turning points in the church's recent history.

The choir plans to fly back to Houston on Wednesday, meaning they'll likely narrowly miss the naming of a new pope. Still, the group told Local 2's Bill Balleza their performance is an experience they'll always remember.
