Houston-area World War II veterans get tour of a lifetime in D.C.

HOUSTON – Twenty-five local World War II veterans are receiving a tour of a lifetime.

They are heading to Washington, D.C., for a memorable tour, thanks to Honor Flight Houston, a non-profit organization created solely to honor America's veterans for all their sacrifices.

The flights and tours that Honor Flight Houston provides veterans are absolutely free.

While in D.C. the veterans will visit the World War II Memorial.

"It was build to honor the guys and gals that served in World War II , said Rhonda Harshbarger with Honor Flight Houston. "Most of the vets have never seen it."

The group will be in Washington until Saturday evening.

About 100 veterans are on a waiting list to take the trip.
