House destroyed, firefighter injured battling fire

HOUSTON – A woman's southwest Houston home was destroyed within minutes after an early morning fire.

Angela Patterson was at work when the fire started at her home in the 8600 block of Quail Burg.

She has lived in the house for 15 years.

"There's nothing to worry about why worry about it these are just material things," said Angela Patterson.

Officials said 30 firefighters from the Houston Fire Department responded to the house fire within minutes.

Fighting this fire was tricky after crews discovered the nearest fire hydrant wasn't working.

"We had a bad hydrant right down here had to relocate the water supply water supply was the biggest problem these neighborhoods out here the pressure is not good we had to run two supply lines into pumper to get it put out," said District Chief Johnny Smith.

Flames consumed the entire one-story house.

The heat, humidity and intense flames took a toll on one firefighter who was pulled from the burning house.

"We had one firefighter that got overheated, said District Chief Johnny Smith." "The RIT team saw him go down to a knee. We pulled a mayday. They had him out in 10 seconds."

The firefighter was treated at the scene with ice packs and an IV. He was not transported to the hospital.

Investigators said the fire was concentrated in the attic, but because no one was home at the time, investigators with the Arson unit are checking the scene.

As for Angela Patterson, she's not sure what comes next. But she is grateful she and her family are safe.

"I just leave it in God's hands," she said "He will take care of it."
