HOUSTON -

A homicide investigation is underway at an apartment complex in southwest Houston.

Houston police said homicide investigators were called to the parking lot at the Sugar Branch Apartments, located  in the 10100 block of Forum Park, around 6:15 a.m. Thursday.

Officials said the shooting happened around 4:30 a.m.

Houston police said one person was shot and  transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he later died.

Police said the man did not live at the apartment complex, but was well-known to residents.

Investigators said the man was seen having an argument with a man and woman over a cell phone.

A witness heard gunshots, found the victim and saw a man running away, according to police.

A suspect is not in custody.
