Ten northwest Harris County homes had to be evacuated after a crash caused a gas leak in the area.
The accident happened early Tuesday morning near Sawmill Pass and Spring Shannon Drive. Deputies said a driver lost control of his truck and crashed between two homes, hitting a gas meter.
"The gas was blowing all over the place," said Scott Provenzola, who lives in the area. "I was just trying to get [everyone] away from the house because I didn't want anyone to get hurt."
According to reports, the truck's driver and several occupants took off after the crash.
"We're still looking for the individuals in the truck," said Lieutenant Steve Cupit with Precinct 4. "One of the occupants was able to see some males exiting and running from the truck, but at this time we haven't confirmed that."
Deputies evacuated a block of homes while CenterPoint crews worked to repair the damage. The families were able to return to their homes later Monday morning.
No one was injured.
