HOUSTON – A homeowner put a warning sign to thieves outside his northeast Houston house after a group of men broke inside.
Houston police said a man was sitting in his living room in the 900 block of English about 11:30 p.m. Monday and heard a loud thump.
The homeowner went to a window to check to see if everything was OK, but he saw a foot smash through the window, investigators said.
Three armed men wearing ski masks then came into the home, detectives said.
Police said one of the invaders tried to go into a part of the home where the man's 10-year-old twins and wife were, so the man tried to stop him. The homeowner tried to stop that invader and another attacker then hit him in the head with a pistol, investigators said.
The three thieves then left the home through the broken window, police said.
Later that night, the homeowner put a sign on the door that read, "Yes! We are freaked out and HEAVILY ARMED! Do Not Come Near House."
Neighbor Steve Valdez said he saw the men run out of the home.
"I told my wife to lock the door and I grabbed my gun and ran out," Valdez said.
Detectives said they do not believe anything was taken in the home invasion.
"There was iPads lying right there, in plain view, and nothing was taken," Valdez said. "It almost seems like they were looking for something, not anything."
Descriptions of the attackers have not been released.
