Homeowner shot while mowing lawn of his N. Harris County home

HARRIS COUNTY – Authorities say a homeowner was shot after a man tried to rob him outside his northwest Harris County home.

It happened at around 8:15 a.m. Friday in the 1000 block of Progreso Drive.

Deputies with the Harris County Sheriff's Office say the man attempted to rob the victim while he was mowing the lawn.

The men got into a fight, and at some point the homeowner was shot in the stomach, deputies said.

"There is no reason a guy can't come out here and cut his own yard, and then get shot, that is not right," said neighbor Bill Luter.

The man then ran out of the house.

A neighbor told deputies he called 911 after hearing gunshots. He also got in his car in an attempt to follow the shooter, but lost him.

"I saw the guy take the gun from his pocket and shoot my friend," said a neighbor who did not want us to use her name. "I don't try to catch the guy, I tried to catch the license plate, or follow him to see what direction, so when police came I explained."

The victim was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital in stable condition.

Deputies describe the shooter as a tall, thin black man.

If you have any information on the two suspects of the vehicle they were in, you are asked to call the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
