HOUSTON -

A man said he was sound asleep when all of the sudden he heard a loud crashing sound coming from his second floor window.

"I went into the backyard to check things out and I noticed my window unit was being moved around. I thought someone was in my house," Johnny Thompson said.

It happened around 3:15 a.m. Friday at the home on Melbourne Street near Tucson in northeast Houston.

Thompson said he grabbed his gun and walked upstairs.

"I walked in on him, I felt I had the upper hand to resolve the situation. I didn't know if he was packing or what because you never know," he explained.

Seconds later, the homeowner opened fire on the suspect and then called 911.

Houston police said the suspected burglar was shot at least one time in the stomach area.

Emergency crews rushed the suspect to the hospital for surgery.

As of now, investigators said the homeowner will not face any charges.

The name of the suspect was not immediately released. Police said he could face several charges.
