Homeowner injured during shootout with burglars

HOUSTON – Deputies said a group of burglars shot a man in the leg during a home invasion in northwest Harris County.

According to deputies, the victim heard someone trying to pry open his front door off the 22000 block of Webb Road around 1 a.m. Friday morning.

"The homeowner heard something and fired his gun, and then the suspects fired a round back," said Deputy Mikel with the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

The shooter fired back with an assault rifle as he was leaving the scene. Bullets pierced the side of victim's home and his door, and also shattered his window.

"Looks like they were attempting to go through the front and the neighbor was able to assist the homeowner after the suspects left," said Deputy Mikel.

When emergency crews arrived, they rushed the victim to Memorial Hermann Hospital in stable condition on a LifeFlight helicopter.

Neighbors said they did not see the suspects, but only the getaway truck. It is described as a four-door, white Ford F-150.
