HOUSTON - More than 450 students in the Houston Independent School District are getting new bikes.
This was part of "Bikes for Excellence, started by a former Houston police officer who wanted to reward students who excelled in academics and attendance.
Fifth graders received new bikes, helmets and locks at Caldwell Elementary School and Law Elementary School on Thursday.
Students at two more schools will receive free bicycles Friday.
The bikes were donated by the Thin Blue Line Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club and the Lester and Sue Smith Foundation.
