HISD: Student made threat against Westside High School

School district officials: Verbal threat made Tuesday morning

HOUSTON – A high school increased security after a student made a threat against the campus, school district officials said.

Houston Independent School District officials said a verbal threat was made against Westside High School on Tuesday morning.

"The student is not being allowed on campus and extra security measures are being taken to ensure the safety of our students and staff," Principal Peggi Stewart wrote in a letter to parents

School district officials have not released details about the threat.

"I want you to know that we take threatening comments seriously and we are committed to using every necessary resource to address the situation," Stewart wrote. "Nothing is more important to us than the safety of your children."

School district officials have not released any identifying information about the student and have not said if he or she will face criminal charges.
