HOUSTON -

The Houston ISD school board met once again to talk about the possible closure of Dodson Elementary School and tabled the issue indefinitely.

The board's original plan included the closure of five HISD schools, but after backlash from community members, only one -- Dodson -- remains on the chopping block.

Last month in a 5-4 vote, the board of trustees decided to close Dodson Elementary. On Thursday night, trustees gathered to reconsider that decision amidst heavy opposition and protests from parents and community leaders.

Originally, HISD proposed closing five schools, citing declining enrollments. But last month the district announced that three of those schools had been removed from the closure list, and it was decided that Jones High School would become a specialty career-focused school without athletics.
