High school evacuated after bomb threat

HISD: Threat made against Westbury High School

HOUSTONA southwest Houston high school was evacuated Tuesday because of a bomb threat.

Houston Independent School District officials said the threat was made against Westbury High School in the 11000 block of Chimney Rock Road about 9:30 a.m.

By 10:15 a.m., students had returned to their classrooms.

According to parents, there have been other bomb threats at the school in the past two weeks.

"I want something done about it," parent Jonathan Hunt said.

In a letter sent to parents, Westbury's principal detailed similar threats on April 4, April 5 and April 12.

The letter goes on to say, "While the recent evacuations have been a major disruption to our educational efforts, I want to assure you that student safety is the number one core value at Westbury High School and the Houston Independent School District."

HISD officials said police are working to identify the person or persons who called in the threats.

A school district representative said bomb threats at campuses are common and each one is taken seriously.

A gas leak also caused a partial evacuation at the high school last Thursday, making Tuesday's incident the fifth evacuation in two weeks.
