High-end liquor stolen at Union Kitchen

HOUSTON – For the staff at the Union Kitchen on Bellaire Boulevard in Southside Place, Super Bowl weekend was unforgettable, but not for all the right reasons.

"At 1:50 in the morning, I received a call from my alarm company," general manager Rob Thomas said.

When Thomas checked the footage from the restaurant's security cameras, his heart nearly stopped. A pair of thieves, in the dark of night, were caught on camera helping themselves to liquor and wine worth several thousand dollars.

“When somebody violates you in that sense, and that security that we have around here, it's heartbreaking. We put our heart and soul into this," Thomas said.

One thief, who had his face covered, went right for the good stuff, a bottle of Louis XIII, which is 100-year-aged Cognac worth $3,000.

"It is about $300 a shot," Thomas said.

The thieves also stole two cases of Opus One wine. Each bottle is valued at $500. The thieves were in and out in about 45 seconds and never laid a finger on the cash register.

Coming off a 16-hour day and one of the restaurant's biggest weekends of the year, Thomas said it was like someone had kicked him in the gut.

"We are the neighborhood kitchen. We have families in here all the time. We spend so much time in this building. This is home away from home," Thomas said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Southside Place Police Department at 713-668-2341.
