Study finds teenagers spend 9 hours a day using media

A new study finds teenagers spend a shocking amount of time using media and technology on a daily basis.

According to the report from non-profit Common Sense Media, the average American teenager spends nine hours each day using media. That includes watching TV, playing video games, surfing the internet, listening to music, or texting on an electronic device.

The same study finds kids between the ages of 8 and 12 use media entertainment roughly six hours each day.

As part of the study, researchers surveyed more then 2,500 teenagers and kids between the ages of 8 and 12 across the United States.

The trick, according to experts, is to help kids learn to manage media usage without jeopardizing the ability to connect face-to-face with others.
