Firefighters blamed an unattended candle for sparking a fire at a house in southeast Houston.

It broke out around 4:15 a.m. Saturday at a home on Dover Street and Bellfort Avenue.

According to the Houston Fire Department, the homeowner had a candle burning, which caught a stack of papers on fire and then spread to the rest of the room.

The homeowner woke up and was able to get out safely, but was transported to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.
