TOMBALL, Texas -

The Houston Fire Department captain who was severely injured in the deadly Southwest Inn blaz, back in May was honored Saturday.

Captain Bill Dowling was surrounded by family and friends at his home in Tomball when he was presented the Local Liberty Mutual Firemark Award.

The award is given to the firefighter who best represents their community through their courageous acts and selfless spirit.

Dowling will be considered for the 2013 Liberty Mutual National Firemark Award. Two national winners -- honored for heroism, the other for community service -- will each receive a $10,000 grant from Liberty Mutual for their fire departments.
