Arson units called three abandoned house fires in southwest Houston "suspicious" because of recent criminal activity in the area.
Around 2:20 a.m. Saturday, HFD responded to reports of a house fire on Old Humble and Smith. When they arrived, firefighters found three homes on one property completely engulfed in flames.
Firefighters made a defensive attack and managed to get the fire under control. However, HFD said all three houses have been vandalized, and copper wiring was stolen out of them recently, so HFD believed the fire was set intentionally.
"We do suspect it was arson. There was suspicious activity inside the house," said District Chief Johnny Smith, with the Houston Fire Department. "We've got some witnesses, so hopefully we can get a conviction."
No one was injured in the blaze.
