Help needed to solve grandmother's slaying

Norma Jean Scott found dead in Fifth Ward

HOUSTON - The family of a woman whose nude body was found two blocks from her home needs helps finding her killer.

Members of Texas EquuSearch found Norma Jean Scott dead in some bushes on Bay Street on Sept. 3, about five days after she disappeared.

The mother of six and grandmother of 18 reportedly left her home with another person and was described as very frightened.

"She would try to get away from him and then he would pull her back. They'd walk several more feet and he would try to pull her back," Officer Richard Bolton said.

Detectives said that man, who name has not been released, is considered a person of interest, but they don't have any definitive answers about who killed Scott or why.

"Right now, we have nothing that would tie that person, directly, to her death," Bolton said.

Relatives said they just want justice for Scott.

"We need your help out there," said Scott's brother, Eric. "If anyone knows anything about this case, please come forward. Just let us know something."

Anyone with information regarding Scott's death is asked to call the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
