HOUSTON -

The Harris County Sheriff's Office is using high-tech scanners to help prevent contraband from entering the jail system.

These scanners are similar to those used in airports.

Those entering the jail system take off their shoes and stand on a conveyer belt while they move through the body scanner.

The scanners are designed to detect objects hidden on detainees.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office is the first law enforcement agency in Texas to use this technology.
