HOUSTON - A man died Monday after he was shot outside a northwest Harris County gas station in an apparent case of road rage, investigators said.
Harris County sheriff's deputies said the shooting happened in the parking lot of a Shell station on F.M. 1960 at Perry Road at 7:30 a.m.
People claiming to be relatives of the woman said she called them and told them that when she and the man stopped at the gas station, the man got out of his vehicle and started kicking her car.
She then pulled out a gun and shot him, investigators said.
"She did only what anybody would," said Letitia D. Quinones, the woman's attorney. "She was in fear of imminent bodily injury or death, and she defended herself."
Detectives said the man tried to open a door to the woman's car.
"The information we're getting, it appeared to be a minor accident turned into a road-rage incident," Sgt. Felipe Rivera said.
The man died at the scene. His name has not been released.
Investigators have not said if the man was armed.
The woman stayed at the gas station and questioned by police. She was later released.
The case will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.
