HOUSTON - Deputies said a naked man forced his way inside a woman's northwest Harris County apartment while she was at home.
Misty Stanford said she heard breaking glass outside her apartment on Hammond Drive and F.M. 1960 about 10 a.m. Sunday. She cautiously cracked her front door but never imagined what would meet her on the other side.
"I opened my door and there was a naked man on my front porch," Stanford said.
Harris County Sheriff's investigators said the man was 24-year-old Andrew Abernathy.
Stanford said the unclothed man had smashed the lamp outside her front door and held his hand out to touch her as if they were old friends. When she refused and told him they had never met, she said Abernathy refused to leave.
"I asked him to get off my porch," said Stanford. "I said, 'I'm going to give you until (the count of) three.' And so he mimicked me and while he did that, he started playing with himself and counting."
Stanford said the intruder then ran inside her apartment as she screamed for help from neighbors.
Stacey Byrd said he also saw the naked man crawling around the Dumpster and trying to break into cars, so he dialed 911.
"I said, 'Ma'am, there's a guy walking around here naked and he looks kind of hostile,'" Byrd told the 911 operator.
Soon deputies arrived, but Stanford said Abernathy would not give up easily.
"He was kicking," she said. "He was fighting. He started running from them. They put him on the ground and had to Taser him."
Even now, with Abernathy arrested, Stanford said she worries every time she opens her door.
"I'm afraid he's going to come back," she said.
Abernathy has been charged with indecent exposure and trespassing. Investigators said he appeared incoherent during his arrest.
